Grab Some Retro Candy for National Candy Day

This coming Monday is National Candy Day, but we thought we’d go ahead and get a head start. Ready, set…. GO! We’re celebrating by taking a trip in our secret time machine and highlighting our favorite treats from our retro candy selection. We invite you to come along and celebrate with us on our journey!

1. Hopjes Coffee Candy

These delicious, Dutch pieces of retro candy date all the way back to the 18th century. Hopjes Coffee Candy flawlessly combines the flavors of coffee and caramel to create this wonderful treat. Fun fact: These were originally invented for a Baron who was ordered by his doctor to avoid drinking coffee.

2. Strawberry Hard Candy

These strawberry hard candies were all the rage when we were growing up. When you pop one of these in your mouth, you’re instantly reminded of your childhood! This candy also perfectly captures the taste of summer, so if you’re already missing those warm and sunny days, eating one of these will cure those winter blues.

3. Gourmet Fruit Slices

If you’re craving something chewy and fruity, these treats will hit the spot. We’ve got the best gourmet fruit slices around. This classic retro candy comes in a variety of flavors like lemon, lime, raspberry, orange, and watermelon. Watch out! These are so good you might find yourself fighting someone else for the bag.

4. Chocolate Stars

Remember these? This blast from the past is made with creamy and delightful milk chocolate. Be careful– these beautiful chocolate stars will melt in your mouth (not that we’re complaining!).

5. Mary Janes

You’d better believe this is one of our favorite retro candies — just look at that adorable wrapper! Mary Janes have been around since 1914, and the recipe hasn’t changed since its inception. When you eat one, you’re in store for a scrumptious combination of molasses and peanut butter.

What’s your favorite candy, new or old? How do you plan on celebrating National Candy Day? We’d love to hear from you!

My friends and I use to buy a bag of these wonderful chocolates and a six pack of pepsi, and head to the river for swimming and just hanging out for the day. I’m 50+ now, but that was good times, miss the good old days..
