Lovingly Created in Cranford, New Jersey since 1929

We’re going Nuts(.com)!

In 1929, my grandfather, Poppy Sol, started The Newark Nut Company in Newark, NJ.  My dad and uncle grew up in the business in the 1950s and 1960s, and my cousin David and I grew up in the business in the 1980s and 1990s.  We survived the Great Depression, Poppy Sol going off to WWII, our warehouse burning down, and our store being bulldozed twice.  Otherwise, it was business as usual!

Until 1999… .  The Internet was really taking off and, as I was sitting in my freshman dorm, I wondered if people would actually be willing to buy nuts online.  I figured it was worth a shot!  But what should I name the site?  NewarkNutCompany.com was just too long to type in.  I put together a list (including names like eNuts.com and NutsDirect.com), but unfortunately all of them were taken.  Hmmm… .  I used America Online back then, so I got the idea for Nuts Online.  Voila! NutsOnline.com was available.

By 2005, it turned out that, yes, people were buying lots of nuts online! And dried fruit, and seeds, and coffees, and chocolates, and lots of other stuff.   Yay!  And, by 2011, NutsOnline had become pretty well known across the country for great quality and service across a growing product offering.  Our slogan, “We’re more than just nuts,” continues to ring true.

That being said, I can’t tell you the number of times I would make new friends and, before saying goodbye, they would say, “I am excited to check you guys out.  Nuts.com, right?”  No, NutsOnline!

There was even a time when we spent hours wrapping hundreds of Jordan almonds in tulle circles for The Rachael Ray Show, and she said, “Thanks to Nuts.com for providing the favors.”  Noooo!

For more than three years, I had been looking into getting the Nuts.com domain name and the opportunity finally arose this summer.  But I continued to debate the transition to Nuts.com for days on end with my wife, my relatives, my friends…NutsOnline.com is my baby and our customers love us.  While Nuts.com is definitely easier to remember and easier to type, I wanted to make sure that our loyal customers knew that nothing would change except for our name.

In early October, we decided to stop debating and officially change our name and URL to
Nuts.com in January 2012.  The important thing to remember is that we are and will continue to be the same – the same family, the same values, the same quality, and the same level of care.  Over time, we will replace the logo and develop new packaging, but we promise that your experience will only continue to improve.

Poppy Sol built the foundations for our reputation more than 82 years ago, and we are committed to upholding this tradition to our fourth generation and beyond.

I’ve only recently ‘found’ you, but have made a few orders and have been very much pleased with each one. The black walnuts in my last order were very tasty in banana bread. I will try the rest in some divinity candy later on. I am anxious to see your ‘new logo’… can’t imagine how you can improve on it. Best wishes, God bless you with a successful 2012.

Iam a 1st time buyer and I must say your product is absolutely fabulous. I ordered 2 dark chocolate graham crackers (24 pieces) and 1 milk chocolate graham, unfortunately the milk chocolate came in little pieces. Your representative very graciously sent another shipment and it came in OK. As I said the product is great and of course I will be ordering again, but I think you should look into the packaging. It stayed in my refrigerator opened all the time. Thank you for your product and your caring.

Nuts or NutsOnline you’ll always be my nutty website numero uno. I’ve made quite a few purchases and I love everything! A while ago I took a bag of chocolate covered sunflower seeds to my family in Poland (my home country) and before I finished saying ‘Do you guys want to try some chocolate-y sunflower?’ they were all gone:) I tell everyone about you and you’re right- it will be easier to find you as Nuts.com. Go Nuts!

I already left a “TASTE A MONIAL”, but I can’t get over, all the years we couldn’t get “Black Walnuts” in Arkansas. I mean they had a 20 million pound nut haul this year! But, where are they? Well, I found all I wanted here at “NUTS.COM” Aw, what a happy old soldier I am. haha. My wife went “NUTS” this Christmas, and I’m still begging for more. haha. I got three pounds today. I have shucked more Walnuts in the Appalachians my hands should be permanent yellow. NOW, I just go to the computer. A blessing, a blessing you are. I was 200 pounds. BUT, with the Banana bread, Pound cake, ice cream, and a special cookie, MY dear wife makes. OH MY, I think my pants are bursting, haha. God loveya all up there in New Jersey. God bless Poppy, his service to his country, and his family for carrying on his dream. Ahhhhhh, “Black Walnuts”, my favorite, H.Neeland

Hi, David! We do the best we can to keep shipping costs low for our customers, but the rates are such that shipping a package that weighs several pounds (or more) can get expensive. We do our part by simply passing on the cost of shipping to the customers, never charging packaging and handling fees, and offering a variety of options so that you can choose the shipper you enjoy most. We are also always exploring our options in that area. We are so happy to hear that you enjoy our products! Thanks so much for stopping by, and have a sweet day!

Just wanted to tell you this Gogi berry order is the third one. I make a smoothie with it and almond milk and blueberries that I drink every morning. Dr. OZ had recommended it and it has cured some health issues with my bladder and urinary tract I had had for years that the Drs. could not explain.
This just might help others with the same problem. Also, you had sent me a sample of Chia seeds. What can I do with them? Please advise. Thank you, and the name is a good one.

Hi, Wilma! We’re so happy to hear that you enjoy the goji berries. They’re so good for you, and that smoothie sounds delicious! As far as the chia seeds go, you can find out all about chia seeds (including the benefits and some recipes) on the product page here: https://nuts.com/cookingbaking/chia-seeds/premium.html. We like to stir them into juice, smoothies, yogurt and oatmeal, and even sprinkle them on salads!

You nutty guys have brought internet customer service, or ANY customer service, to the highest level. That’s important, because even when you have the BEST products, as you do—if you don’t have the personal attention to back those products up….it becomes nothing more than a stinkweed. Last Fall, I ordered a handmade tree-bark nut bowl from a company and when the bowl arrived they had included two bags of nuts from…….NUTS ONLINE!! I had to smile when I saw that. I told them they had picked the perfect company to buy their nuts from. I think going from nuts online to nuts.com will be good for your company and that’s good for all of us.

If I’m not sure, I’ll call.

The best thing is that you clean your vats after each use so there is no cross-contamination. People are not aware of how important that is for allergy sufferers.

I love being able to browse all your products online. Renaming your site to Nuts.com is probably easier for most people to remember. You guys make it easy for me to send gifts to friends when I’m on the road. One thing I want to inquire about is whether your soy and corn based products are GMO-free. This is becoming more and more important and it’s SO helpful if you can actually make that statement in your merchandising and on your packaging so I don’t have to search for the info before ordering.

I discovered your firm this past fall for a single purpose. My step daughter Renee has a real “sweet-tooth” taste for good old-fashioned root beer barrel candy and I couldn’t find any at my local WalMart or other store. I went online, found your site and ordered 5 pounds worth.

My profession is that of a federally-licensed Enrolled Agent (tax and refundable claims forms preparation; taxpayer representation before the IRS, and wealth retention advice and efforts in behalf of my 600+ tax customers). I provide them as they come in “comfort candy” and cold water as a case of office goodwill policy and not only did my stepdaughter Renee enjoy the candy but so did my customers!

I’ll be making additional purchases in the next ten days or so…I like the fact that the product was both flavorful but also quite fresh and tasty.

Count me as one of your satisfied customers.

    Respectfully submitted,

    Thomas Avery Blair, Enrolled Agent.

I do eat 3 pieces of sugar free candy after my lunch & dinner. I compared products with local Discount house. Unfortunately, the shipping got price up so I didn’t save money but thanks to the $5.00 it will make me even!

I’ve also ordered pine nuts in the shell for her, which she loves as well. I order the roasted, unsalted cashews for our Senegal Parrot ‘Keeya’ and admit dipping into them myself! I also order the natural sliced almonds which we use on salads and ice cream . . . yummy! Ever since the day I found you (a few years back now) I’ve always been extremely happy with the products and service. My birds deserve the best! Thank you!

I knew I had found the white kidney bean at “Nuts on Line” and they have been great for white chili. None of the stores I have shopped in have either one of these beans. Honestly you have set the bar so high I do not believe I would even consider using another company for such precious goods. Nobody does it better and certainly not with as much devotion.

I was going to mention that the shipping costs usually add about a dollar for each pound of product. ie: 20lb order costs approx. $20.00 to ship. But, as you responded to another loyal customer, you make every effort possible to minimize shipping costs and never add fees for packing and packaging. And things being as they are, that is all one can do. Thanks for all your good work.

I got my first order in September as a get well gift from my daughter & have been hooked since; I especially loved the pumpkin malted milk balls as a seasonal treat but keep going back to my favorite Royal mix. Gave small bags of the dried fruit & berries as stocking stuffers to everyone on my list. Thank you for your great fresh product! And the name- well I’ll just have to adapt.

I absolutely LOVE your website and am excited for y’all with the new name- that totally makes sense! I have one suggestion that would REALLY help Nuts.com addicts, such as myself – a Save For Later button (like on Amazon). I just put in an order the other day and, shortly after, a friend brought up how amazing figs are…and that reminded me of how amazing YOUR figs are…and how I’ve been meaning to order a big bag ever since I got a sample of them!!

Also, I want SO much stuff on here, that every time I put in an order, I have to say no to at least one thing…and then I get excited over something else next time and totally forget about what I was stoked about last time I ordered! haha See how much help it would be? PLEASE create a Save For Later button – It would help TREMENDOUSLY!!

Oh, and just one more thing- I took the survey and never got $5 off. 🙁 Is it possible to get that credited to my account if you verify that I took it? Clicked on the link right out of my email. Each time you’ve offered a free water bottle or specialty fudge, it hasn’t shown up free when I put it in my cart…am I misunderstanding the special offers?? If someone could email me, I would greatly appreciate it. Anyways, keep up the amazing work! Happy Tuesday! 🙂

Hi there, Chrissy! Thanks for your great suggestions! We have passed your question about the special offers on to our customer service team so they can email you directly.

Our special offers can be a little tricky. Basically, when you have a special offer like a free product or another coupon, you have to select the coupon at checkout before the discount will be applied. So, when you add the water bottle to your cart, for example, it would show up as full price until you click “checkout” and get to the main checkout screen. In the lower righthand corner of the checkout screen, there should be a list of all the still-valid coupons and special offers you’ve acquired by taking our survey and clicking through the links in the newsletter emails. Select the coupon you’d like to use, and it’ll update your cart to apply the discount. You can always reach us at CustomerService@Nuts.com or 800-558-6887 with any questions you may have!

So I have ordered from you guys about 3-4 times now and have got to say that I am satisified with your products. Guess thats why I come back. With that said, I want to make it clear that I am very disatisfied with your shipping cost. I would like to see you give us loyal customers a break in shipping. I ordered about 8lbs of product last order and my shipping was just under $16. Thats roughly $2 a lb additional I am paying! I hope you would consider getting creative with the shipping cost your passing on to us customers. I really would like to continue as a customer, but have to really consider whether or not I’m actually saving by buying online vs in local stores. FYI – I have told several friends about nutsonline and although a couple have now ordered they have the same complaints, and those who did not order. said it was due to the high cost of shipping. FOOD FOR THOUGHT!

I have been a happy customer of NutsOnline for several years now. I was originally searching for food for my Eclectus parrot when I came across your website. I ordered the roasted, unsalted pistachios in the shell just for my bird. To my surprise, those pistachios were so great – HUGE and roasted to perfection! My bird “Alfie” only got a few of them and I ate the rest! Irresistable they were! I have been reordering pistachios and many other treats ever since, can’t do without them now. Yes, shipping charges are high. I have compared prices from NutsOnline to other companies, and yours are the lowest. Most other companies also charge handling fees. You will never find the quality of nuts from any of your local stores that you get from NutsOnline, not to mention the customer care. So for me, I will continue to order and pay the shipping fees. A big thanks to NutsOnline!

I just placed my first order today, and as I was reading through the comments afterwards, I was somewhat mystified at all the complaints about shipping costs. How many of us can realistically jump in our cars and go out and even *find* all the products on nuts.com; nearby, of the same quality, price, variety, etc. With gas at $4 a gallon, and not-so-easy access to a store of nuts.com’s nature for a lot of folks, I’d say the shipping costs are nominal for the convenience of sitting on your duff and clicking a few buttons to make a purchase that is shipped to your door. What it would cost me in gas alone, not to mention the hassle, exceeds the cost of shipping my order. Just sayin’.

Couldn’t resist ordering several items. Are you the same fellows from Mulberry Street, Newark ? Oh my God, if you are ! Grew up with you! Thanks for being there…

I very much appreciate Nuts.com going to the extra effort for the gluten free products. I’ve been unable to locally find any nuts that are gluten free, and after being glutened by Costco brand Walnuts I had all but given up hope.

    Thank you so very much.

I just placed my first order with you guys, and I am excited about receiving my first shipment of in-the-shell nuts.

I recently added nuts to our diet because I have read how very good they are for your health, but I am unable to find nuts in the shell in our local stores, except one store that carries them during the holidays. So, I had to search online to see if I could get them.

Voila! After looking over a few sites, I found and chose, your site, mainly because you are a family owned business–those are the businesses I like to support.

I can’t wait and look forward to much future business with your company.

I hope that 2012 is an even better, and more successful year for you, as many people–like myself–find less and less choice at our local stores. Thanks for being here.

i have received 2 orders..the first was completely acceptable and very good.
the second order is all raw nuts which i am going to roast. i first tasted the raw walnuts i was amazed at the wondrful taste that i will not roast them. packing and shipping are very good.

i like your description of everything. i roast my own coffee i had a coffee shop in Los Angeles and was rated as having the best coffee in Los Angeles. I looked at your description of the coffees you have, and you were virtually the only one that knew how to describe the way the French roast. Virtually everybody in the USA has actually said that French roast is the darkest coffee – darker than Italian, which is incorrect. I am pleased that you could note that in your description.

It has being more then three years that I’m buying from Nuts.Online in bulk Dates and Raisins…
All my orders arrived on time, fresh and plump… only once I had the raisins a bit dry but the Nutty Family was very prompt into giving me a generous credit for my next purchase. I decide to keep the raisins since my husband told me that this butch was sweeter even though it was a bit dryer then the last order.
I had a bit of hard time associating the new name to Nuts.Online. I have to get use to the new name “Nuts.com”…
Thank you Christine for your generous gift. I wasn’t expecting it! It came on handy now that just order my usual 30 pounds of pitted dates. (I used them when I make bread, chew them slowly when I drink tea or late … and also to give the children I have under my care instead candy… They love them and I feel that is much better to give them natural sweets…)

I found you guys back in 2010 while I was deployed to Afghanistan. It was such a great surprise to find out you shipped to APOs and I didn’t have to send it to family, who would send it to me. You can imagine how long that would end up taking. Ever since then, I’ve made several orders during my deployments (I’m on round 3 right now), as well as recommending you guys to all of my buddies in the military. We love you guys, no matter what the name! Keep up the fantastic work 🙂

I found you years ago while searching for a source for Chinese crackers, chili bits and green peas. Your products have been, and continue to be, AMAZING. The quality, the quantity (price!), and the timeliness are above board. I just placed an order. It is 4pm and I can expect the package to go out yet today. Now that is customer service! I totally understand the shipping costs. I work for a commercial printer and we deal with shipping all the time. I can verify for anyone wondering that you are really giving us the straight up costs for shipping and I appreciate that. Although USPS might be cheaper in some respects I would never forego the ability to know exactly when my package will deliver.

And I loved the surprise chia seeds last time. I didn’t even know they existed and now we use them a lot. It looks like that may be my next order.

I loved the old name…I love the new name and if it helps to drive business to your site, more power to you. It certainly helps me to share you with everyone I know.

I found your web site a few days ago while searching for sesame sticks. Not only were your prices incredibly affordable (less than half of most competitors), but I was shocked that my order arrived the next day. I placed my order on July 4, but then discovered another product that I wanted to add (the delicious Swiss Petite Fruits), but had to wait until the next morning to call due to the holiday. The customer service rep was very helpful and was able to add the candy to my existing order; it shipped later that day (7/5)and arrived today (7/6). It was over 90 degrees out and I came home from work to find the package on my porch in the hot sun thinking, “Oh no, the candy probably melted”! To my surprise, when I opened my package (love the clever writing on the box, BTW), I found the candy carefully wrapped in an insulated bag with a reusable (!) coolant inside. Wow! The nuts and candy were not only fresh, but professionally packaged in resealable bags. I was also impressed with the sample of free nuts, which was a nice bonus. Your products are unique, affordable and highly addictive. I’m a customer for life! I think Nuts.com is a better name than NutsOnline.com; much easier to remember.

Yep, you made a good decision regarding the name change, however, I thoroughly enjoyed reading about the thoughts behind the move. You have some unique products, in addition to the nuts (pine nuts for summer pesto – yum!); Dr. Oz touted the chestnuts for good health, so looking forward to you having them back in stock. Preferably already roasted and without shells! Thanks for being there!

Hi Melinda, thanks for referring friends to us! There is currently a worldwide shortage of chia seeds until the new crop comes on the market in January. The cost of chia seeds has more than tripled in the last month, and unfortunately we have to raise the price for this item in order to keep it in stock. However, we expect the price to come down in the new year. We appreciate your asking!

Glad to find you under any name. The nutsonline.com led me to you anyhow. Thanks for that.

The only difference I see is that your shipping fees have increased a lot since my last order about 8-9 months ago. If you can readjust those, it would help a lot. I remember recommending you to a friend and telling him that I paid about $1 per pound on my last order for shipping. This time it’s more—almost twice as much, and I ordered pretty much the same items.

    Thanks,
    Joey

I don’t remember Nutsonline.com, but I remember your Newark Nut store. The store was located on Mulberry Street. My mother would take me and my sister to the store whenever there was a parade in the Downtown section of Newark. Always smelled the nuts roasting in the big roaster in the window.

Thank you for your availability. I’d much rather shop from a reputable company online then to go and shop in person. Besides, I can find things that I never thought I would try (lupini beans, chia seeds) and they are of far better quality then I’ve been able to find in my local area. And you have a consistent supply. Just tried your coffee this morning. Awesome!

Ah. Very pleased with this website. Other than just overall health These products help a lot with body building. Goji Berries by far are my favorite. If I do 476g of Goji berries a day + 1.5 cans of tuna I have everything I need. To preform at optimal levels and I’m still at a caloric deficit for my body to shred down(this is specific to me, not everyone is the same). Now all that’s left is for nuts.com to have a high Vitamin B12 product that can replace my tuna. While Chlorella is a power house and complete food, the vitamin B12 in it is a very small amount(can’t be helped I guess). But, I still give this website 11/10 for customer satisfaction and nutritional value.
