Healthy, Heavenly Hazelnuts
Do you love hazelnuts? We sure do! Those tender, slightly sweet nuts always remind us of the holidays. Luckily, unlike a lot of holiday treats, hazelnuts are just about as healthy as they are indulgent.
Hazelnuts are one of the best nuts in terms of fat content. Less than 4 percent of their fat content comes from less healthy saturated fat, and 91 percent of the fat in the nuts is beneficial monounsaturated fat. This heart-smart fat can reduce both your total and LDL cholesterol levels. Hazelnuts are packed with vital vitamins and minerals, such as phosphorus, iron and B vitamins. They also offer up healthy doses of protein and fiber.
There are quite a few different (and delicious) ways to work hazelnuts into your diet. We love cracking into a pile of in-shell hazelnuts during the holidays. In fact, they’re a staple on our snack and treat table every year! If you prefer the shelled variety, give our unsalted roasted hazelnuts and salted roasted hazelnuts a shot. I love chocolate and hazelnuts. Milk chocolate with hazelnuts is my favorite. The hazelnuts have to be chopped instead of whole or else they will taste bitter.
