Back-to-School: Healthy Brown Bag Lunch Ideas

It’s almost time to go back to school! One surefire way to guarantee your child eats a healthy meal during the day is to pack one yourself. Here are some yummy brown bag lunch ideas your kids will love:

1. Pasta Salad

Pasta Salad is a versatile food that travels well. Many pasta salads are best served cold, which makes them great for a packed lunch. You can throw in leftover meat from the night before, vegetables, and you can even use gluten-free pasta.

2. Soup

Soup is a hearty and healthy crowd-pleaser, perfect for a school lunch. If the soup should be hot, put it in a thermos. If it should be cold, chill it overnight and then put it in a thermos the next day. Make sure you store it in a container with a screw top to avoid spills. Soup is a great way for kids to get extra servings of vegetables and protein. Try making a batch of split-pea soup or add lots of fresh veggies to our organic harmony soup blend.

3. Shaped Sandwiches

Sandwiches are a brown bag lunch special, and you can make them more fun simply by cutting them into festive shapes. For example, you might take a regular peanut butter and jelly sandwich and turn it into flowers or any other shape using cookie cutters.

4. Themed Lunches

Take the shaped sandwich idea one step further with themed lunches! Here’s a playful owl-themed lunch that’s even accompanied by a witty rhyme. Another great idea is a fish-themed lunch with a fish-cutout sandwich, goldfish crackers, and Swedish fish!

Which one of these brown bag lunch ideas would be popular with your family? Do you have any other ideas to share?

I used to make homemade mini pizzas from scratch.. Lots of fresh peppers , onions and mushrooms on them! Freeze them and pop a frozen one into the lunch box… It thawed by noon and the kids loved them cold. My son always wanted extra for his best friend cuz he loved them too!
