Care For a Nutty Grilled Cheese?
Did you know that today is National Grilled Cheese Sandwich Day? Good news for us! We’re nuts about crispy, melty grilled cheeses. We even like to invent our own sandwich combos! Want to hear about one of our favorites? It’s a cheesy, nutty extravaganza!
To start, spread the outside of two slices of bread with butter. Spread the opposite side of each slice with goat cheese, cream cheese or another soft cheese (such as brie). Layer toasted walnut pieces on top of the soft cheese on one slice of the bread. Place a slice of sharp cheddar cheese on top of the nuts, then a layer of thinly sliced tart apples or pears on top of the cheddar. Top the whole thing off with the other slice of bread, cheese side down.
Grill the sandwich over medium heat until it’s golden brown on both sides. Serve it with a fresh spinach salad, tomato soup or homemade kale chips.
